Red Deer Rut Experience / Tour Report September 2020

It is with great pleasure that Corentin and I meet our guests for this first tour of the season dedicated to the red deer rut. Each year, the excitement gradually builds and when autumn finally arrives, it is a great pleasure to find again these extraordinary animals. The deer rut is clearly the highlight of fall. It’s the epitome of this wonderful season.

For this first day, we start slowly. The walking time is very limited. We spend most of the day in the same area, listening to and observing an incredible amount of deer, hinds and fawns.

We're a good distance away so we don't bother them at all. Sometimes our eyes meet, but they know they are safe and we are not a threat. Their behavior is completely natural and the spectacle is magnificent. None of our guests had seen a Red Deer before the tour, so they are delighted with all these encounters.

A red fox even does us the honor of its passage.

Some deer are strikingly majestic. Time freezes.

After this great session, we hit the road to get to our accommodation. We enjoy the aperitif by the fireside by looking at the photos taken by our guests. The day ends with a delicious meal.

As usual with our “Red Deer Rut Experience” stays, we get up early. The goal is to have breakfast and make the road to arrive there at dawn. As soon as we arrive we hear the deer roaring. We go up to the sound of the Eurasian Wren looking for the kings of the place.

The sunrise is beautiful.

The deer are unfortunately very discreet that day, but we are lucky to see Chamois and Alpine Ibex in superb atmospheres, but also to find signs of the presence of the wolf.

Waves of mist come and go. The fall colors and atmospheres are magnificent.

On the way down, we make a last nice meeting on the way.

A very beautiful second day when we were alone, in total immersion in this splendid nature. Despite a certain discretion, we were still able to observe deer, ibex and chamois, all in exceptional autumnal atmospheres. We return to our accommodation to take advantage of this warm and intimate setting.

For this third and final day, we have a superb program for our participants where we will explore our favorite area. A magical place where it is sometimes possible to observe entire herds, with several dozen individuals. We begin to walk at first light.

We quickly make a first observation.

We don't know it yet, but this first encounter marks the start of an incredible day that will be forever remembered in our memories.

As we take a short break near a ruined house, Corentin hears a deer coming in our direction. We remain motionless, as discreet as possible, and wait silently. The next minute or two transcends us.

After such an emotion, we slowly come to our senses and set off again.

From then on, the encounters followed one another. We are fully living the moment.

As we prepare to descend, a herd of ten deer positions themselves on the ridge. A last moment of great beauty.

Without a doubt, this “Red Deer Rut Experience” tour will have been one of the most beautiful that we have had the chance to guide.
