The Sandwich Tern

A wintering species on the Portuguese coast, the Sandwich Tern is splendid and fascinating to observe. Similar in size to a Black-headed Gull, the Sandwich Tern has a wingspan of almost a meter. With a graceful but rapid flight, it flies over lagoons and seashores to find its preys and swoop down on them by diving into the water. Always a wonderful sight to watch.
